Ronnie Earle the Brave

Ronnie Earle is the local district attorney in Austin who is prosecuting DeLay. Now, Ronnie's going to receive the Great and Forceful Wrath of the GOP, smearing him to the best of their sorcery, but what does Ronnie say?
Being called vindictive and partisan by Tom DeLay is like being called ugly by a frog.
Full story here.

Most Baseless

This is one of the weakest, most baseless indictments in...American History.

Hahahahahahahah. But don't write off Abramoff.

Boards of Canada interview

You may be abundantly unsurprised to learn that I'm a huge Boards of Canada fan. They are the top dogs of alienness, a trait I admire. They very rarely give interviews, pictures, or anything, but finally, in prep for their new album (a few weeks from now), they have an interview at pitchfork.

Atlantic Antic 2005

DSCN1352.JPG
The Antic was a blast! I wandered around for a few hours with Jef and Russell, and you can check out the full set here. I shook hands with Fernando Ferrer, watched a band called The Ponys, got the bird flipped my way by one man, and got a pic of an extremely cute old man Ready For Tennis. Have a look.

(This man came at me with a Ferrer sticker, and I resisted suspiciously, but afterwards, when I asked if I could take his picture, he was All Smiles. Thanks!)

One of the best things about Flickr is finding other photographers, and being able to "subscribe" to their photostream. As they take and post new stuff I find it waiting for me on my Flickr home page. This bird is completely amazing.

Hurricane Eye Photos

NOAA pilot Lt. Mike Silah took a set of photos of what is called the eyewall of Hurricane Katrina (on my birthday, in fact). These are stunning.

Update: Another page with a few more, and lots more info about what you're seeing.

Last question...You're Christian, right?

The House has passed a bill that allows "faith-based preschool centers" that receive money from the Head Start program to consider the religious beliefs of a potential employee in making their decision.

Republican Representative Virginia Foxx, from North Carolina, showed her careful review of the situation:
This is about our children, and denying them exemplary services just because the organization happens to be a religious one is just cruel.

Thanks, Virginia!

You Live Life By Your Schedule

This woman appeared in my email box today in a note from my friends at Citibank. She had just been told that Citibank recognized that She Lives Her Life By Her Schedule, and that Now She Can Pay Her Citi Card bill That Way, Too.

This reminds of when Ethan and I use to collect Banner Ads. Anyone wanna post some links to good ones in the comments?

(What with Ad Block extensions, Pith Helmet for Safari, and all that popupblockerness, I rarely see web ads anymore....)

Update: I found a nice banner ad to share. However, entertaining as it is on its own, it's more absurd to know that I found it on the new Houston Chronicle Rita blog, thursday afternoon. As the actual site says:

85-HOUR SHOP-A-THON STARTS THURSDAY!
It's our biggest sale of the season. From 9 a.m. Thursday through 10 p.m. Sunday. It's a great time to bring the season into your home!

Horrible, but rich.

Sunday Stroll

Jill and I took a stroll about the city yesterday, bookmarked by Teany and Vegetarian Dim Sum House.

B2 & Q1

Scorpions and spider(s), workin' together....

If these images do not make your mind spin, it might be time for a primer.

M. Grunnius Corocotta

So, I've been reading that book about the history of Spice, and came across this glorious moment. The writer is discussing the common presence of spices like pepper in ancient Rome. My mind went to mush on the train this morning at this moment:
A schoolboy's textbook featured a talking pig by the name of M. Grunnius ("Grunter") Corocotta, who obligingly asks to be well cooked with pepper, nuts, and honey.

Get Out of the Way, George

This is fantastic. Listen to it, play it, tell folks about it.

More Music plus Mantis

Hey, folks. I have a couple additional tracks up.

016

...and, a bit more "for fans only," i give you 015

Full set here.

Our guest star in this post is a Blepharopsis mendica (pic from here), clearly not a Chelicerate, but we still like him. It's a small bumpy mantis sometimes known as a thistle mantis, devil flower, or egyption flower mantis.
