Lullaby

cohen.190.jpg

What the hell is wrong with Roger Cohen to write schlock like this?
But this 47-year-old man of mixed race, whose very name — O-Ba-Ma — has the three-syllable universality of a child’s lullaby, has always had something of the providential about him, a global figure who looks more like the guy at the local bodega than the guys on dollar bills. That’s the magic.
Right, Roger, I'm sure that "globally" Obama reminds people of the "guy at the local bodega." I think your NYC provincialism's showing.

Update: I'm sorry, but this is just such an irritating bit of writing. Why, oh Roger, does Obama "look[] more like the guy at the local bodega?" Because he's brown? And brown people look like...people in bodegas? What. The. Fuck.
